History Of Recaro

Be comfy or look cool, with Recaro seats there’s no need to decide. The premium seating company that’s been operating for over 100 years.

The legacy of Recaro as we know it today began back in 1963 when Porsche acquired Recaro, Reutter Carosserie. Before this Recaro had been up and running since 1906 and during that time produced chassis for Porsche. At this time Recaro were making high end OEM seats for Porsche and in 1965 they debuted their first aftermarket sports seat at the Frankfurt Motor Show that established their reputation as a quality sports seat manufacturer. This seat was sporting the famous “Pepita” or “Houndstooth” pattern that to this day is synonymous with Porsche.

Two years later in 1967 the first bucket seat for road use “Recaro Rallye” launched that in the following years was refined with many colors and patterns that would come to be staples of Recaro. The 70s and 80s gave us many more classics like the “spektrum” design with it’s instantly recognizable orange gradient. In 1989 the foldable  “Recaro A8” bucket seat released sharing many similarities with today's line up both in looks and materials used.
